Gamma Phi Beta is such a unique sorority experience. It has gone beyond what my expectations were when I

went through recruitment. When I first decided to go through recruitment, I was solely interested in making more friends for my collegiate career. Little did I know, joining Gamma Phi Beta would create more than just a group of close friends, but also an experience I couldn’t have found anywhere else at Boston University.

From the first second of Bid Day, the sisters of Gamma Phi Beta made it clear that you weren't just joining a collegiate chapter, but you were also joining an international organization for a lifetime. One of my favorite moments from Gamma Phi took place at my first Founder's Day. Two sisters were receiving their 50-year recognition pins, meaning that they had been active in Gamma Phi Beta for over 50 years. The two sisters that gained these pins had become best friends when they joined Gamma Phi Beta. This showed me that the friends I have made in this chapter were not only friends for my time at BU, but would also be friends for a lifetime.

On top of the life-long connections I have made so far in Gamma Phi, my experiences here have also introduced me to incredible community service programs, such Campfire and Girls on the Run. These programs fall under our overall philanthropic mission: "Building Strong Girls". This statement allows us to expand our philanthropic outreach to multiple programs. It encourages sisters to look for opportunities that promote the growth and well-being of young girls worldwide, nationwide, and within our own community. Not only does this mission statement provide opportunities for sisters, but it also provides a continuous reminder of Gamma Phi Beta's standards for its sisters.

Lastly, Gamma Phi Beta has instilled a higher set of standards for myself. The main object of Gamma Phi Beta is to "develop the highest type of women through education, social life and service to country and community". Through Delta chapter's extensive scholarship program, unique sisterhood and social events, and philanthropy program, each sister is allowed the opportunity to improve themselves. Personally, I have found that Gamma Phi has pushed me to reach for the stars. Without the support from my sisters in the Delta chapter, I would never have considered looking at medical school and could never have imagined taking on leadership roles such as becoming the President of this incredible chapter.

Without Gamma Phi Beta in my life, I do not know where I would be. However, I can definitely say that with these girls in my life, I have improved and pushed myself in ways I had never envisioned. It is an opportunity I am very grateful I did not miss.

Sincerely,

Katie Adams

President of Gamma Phi Beta Delta Chapter
